New Year, New Beginnings

Well, I've officially failed at blogging. I even forgot I had a blog. Sad, I know. So now, I feel as it is a new year, I should probably try to fill in the huge gap since my last post.

We ended up NOT buying a house and moved into a bigger apartment. While it isn't huge, and isn't a house, it's still home. Being on the bottom floor, we got to hear our upstairs neighbors (elephants, for sure) stomp around and play Call of Duty all hours of the night. After letting Taylor cry it out for a few nights, they mysteriously moved out. Oh well.

I made my very first turkey this Thanksgiving! It was actually quite tasty and not dry at all. We decided to stay home and make our own dinner, which turned out quite nice. I can't say I enjoyed eating turkey for the next week, though. Taylor, our little vegetarian baby, of course would eat no meat. He liked the stuffing and green beans best.

Taylor had his 2nd Christmas, and this time he actually cared about what was happening. He HATED unwrapping presents. Weird. It was like he hated the sound of wrapping paper being ripped. He liked what was inside, though. The only word to describe that child is S-P-O-I-L-E-D. He got so many new toys and books he doesn't even know what to do with them. Pretty sure I'm going to have to purge the toy bucket to find a place for everything.

Packaging is the best part about toys

Taylor also experienced his first snow. It was only his favorite part about Christmas. People who know me know I HATE snow. He didn't really get to play in it much since I didn't want to be out in 10 degree weather, but he thought it was the best thing ever.

My snow baby

For my birthday, Josh got us Thunder tickets for New Years Eve. Of course, Taylor came down with the flu, so I ended up going without Josh. Sad day. Later in the week, Taylor was very generous in giving both Josh and I the flu. It was a great start to a new year and a great birthday present, let me tell you...

This upcoming spring semester, I hope to finish my Associates Degree and then continuing with my Bachelors in History, while Josh will be applying for Pharmacy school. Hopefully he makes it in this year! *crossing fingers* Honestly, I don't have anything nice to say about school, so we'll stop there.

We lead boring lives, so there really isn't anything else to tell. Since the world didn't end, we're excited to see what 2013 has in store for us! Here's to the New Year and any new beginnings that might come with it!

Birthday Baby

So yesterday was Taylor's first birthday! I can't even believe it's already been a year since that little blessing came into our lives. We love him so much!
My big One-Year-Old!

We had a little BBQ at his Great Grandparents' house with our very large family. Funny thing was, Taylor kept running away from his own party. He didn't want to eat dinner, he didn't want presents, he just wanted to go out into the backyard. That little ham...
He had his very first bite of cake, and it was a pretty big success. I made 2 batches of homemade cupcakes and he got a lemon cupcake with cream cheese frosting. It was apparently face shoving good. He had cupcake everywhere.

Presents...well...He didn't really care to open any, and when he did, he was only interested in the first one. Oh well. He's been playing with them all morning, so for all those who got him gifts, he loves them today!
After the party was over, he did get a hold of another cupcake, which was better than the first. He licked all the frosting off, and started laughing hysterically. I don't even know where it came from, but it was the funniest/cutest thing I've ever seen.
I'm sure he can't wait until the next birthday, and all the cake that comes with it!

Housing Crisis

Well, I haven't written a blog in quite a while. The reason being, we're going through this process of buying a house. Insert hair pulling and crazy eyes here. I was hoping to wait to post something until we GOT the said house, but things never work out as planned.
About...6-7 weeks ago, we started house shopping. What started this you may ask? Well, for one, 3 people living in a one bedroom apartment is NOT ideal. Especially when your child lives in the living room. But that, surprisingly, wasn't the main reason we decided it was time for a move.
First reason: The couch. In previous post, it was mentioned we had bought a couch that was too big for the front door. It's true. We want a door our couch can fit through.
The Second (and main) reason: Josh dropped his lunch on the kitchen floor because we only have about 1 ft of counter space. Our kitchen is SO SMALL. We both hate it. I guess I hate it more since I'm the one cooking and have nowhere to put anything while I'm trying to prepare meals. On one side of the sink is a dish drainer, since we have no dishwasher (another reason for the move), and on the other is a microwave. Thus the 1 ft.
Anyway, these are the reasons we got the ball rolling on moving out. They might seem like terrible reasons to buy a house, but there is logic to the madness. Josh still has 4 years of school left here, and there were literally NO rentals open. Anywhere. We called every real estate place in town, with no luck. There weren't really any houses either.
So after looking at the 2 houses in our price range, we picked the one we liked the most and made an offer. Thus ended our lives.
Just kidding. But seriously. There is SO much paperwork to deal with. We signed our lives away and waited to hear back from the sellers. A week later...we heard back and they had accepted our offer. YAY!
The bank. Oh, the bank. They have been the most useless and annoying part of the whole house-buying process. They have been dragging their feet since we contacted them. We put the offer on the house, like I said, 6-7 weeks ago, and STILL have heard NOTHING from the bank.
Supposedly, we should hear if we have the loan tomorrow. Well, I have absolutely no faith in that statement since it's the 5th time I've heard it. Our closing date was a week ago, and because the bank couldn't get it together, it was pushed back to who knows when.
  Can you tell I'm frustrated?
Our lives have basically been on hold since putting the offer on the house. I'm so tired of this whole deal. I don't even care if we get it at this point, I just want to know yes or no so I can get on with my life. Lucky for us, we did get an apartment on reserve, just in case.
  Being an adult stinks.
I've just been expecting the answer no, because if they say yes, it will be a nice little surprise, and we can move into our own little house. Flawed logic? Never.
I gave up the idea of holding out on a blog until we got the house, because well...I have little to no hope of getting the house at this point. Different apartment, here we come!

Small Door, Big Problem

I haven't had an update for a while, so I thought I'd share our latest...dilemma.
Couch. Remote. Underwear. Man.
The little man has figured out how to climb onto our small (and cheap, I might add) couch. He also scales the back and tries to jump over the edge. I might just have to agree with the little old lady at the grocery store...ER trips might be a regular thing in the future.
He LOVES to play with the blinds that happen to be right behind our couch as well as the gum ball machine, which at the moment, holds Skittles. He knows that they're edible and where they come out, so it's a constant battle to keep him away from it. Not to mention, it's glass.
The husband and I decided we should get a new (nicer) couch so the little one can't get up there, and so it would last a lot longer than previously mentioned cheap couch.
  Let the shopping adventure begin...
We looked online for a couple days to see what we might like, and what we would have to save. Then, we went to the local furniture store to check out what they had. Let's just say, small town furniture stores aren't the way to go if you're on a tight budget. Of course, the one couch the husband REALLY liked, was $965. On sale.
That just wasn't something we were willing to pay. At least I wasn't. We waited another week, and kept on looking online, before we made a longer (45 minute) trip to the grand place called Elk City. The furniture store there, although big, really didn't have anything we were looking for. They had one or two couches that we thought we might like, but if we were going to spend money on a couch, we wanted to love it. On to the next store!
We stopped in Clinton to look at their store, but had no such luck.
SO, we waited ANOTHER week, quit procrastinating, and went to the city. All the furniture stores seem to be located on the same block, which is nice when shopping around, but a little overwhelming.
First stop; Mathis Brothers. For those of you who live here in Oklahoma, and have been in this store, it's seriously overwhelming. I knew it was big, but geez. I didn't expect vulture sales people, a coffee shop, or like 20 cashier windows.
THE Couch
As soon as we walked through the doors, someone was there in our faces, asking what we wanted. We told him we wanted a nice, but not too expensive couch that was leather or bonded leather, and easy to clean. I could tell he was cringing at the aspect of having to spend the afternoon with a young college couple who probably weren't going to buy anything. Oh well.
Even the baby loved it!
He ended up being very helpful, and we found a nice couch for a reasonable price that we loved! We decided we would shop around a little more before dropping down a large sum of money. Don't you hate it when you buy something, and then later see the same thing for WAY less? Ugh. Most annoying thing ever.
Next, we went to Bob Mills. Big, but not as big as Mathis Brothers, and definitely not as helpful. A lady told us what was downstairs and what was upstairs and then left us. We walked around, found NOTHING in our price range and left.
Big Red Furniture Outlet, or something like that, is kind of a joke. The only couches they had were HUGE sectionals, and lots and lots of patio furniture with fake food. A little creepy and weird seeing food all over the place...
Factory Direct...what to say about that place. The guy at the front told us where we would find what we were looking for, then said he would leave us to look. Okay, so he really didn't. He would follow us, and when we would stop to look at something, he would stop and turn around. Stop and turn around. It was really weird. When we reached the back of the store, he finally came up to us and asked if we found what we were looking for. Nope.
Back to Mathis Brothers. After finding our sales person, dragging him around to look at beds (might as well since we were there...), we made our very first REAL furniture purchase. We were SO excited to get that thing home. Oh man. Not having to get the baby off the couch every 10 minutes, being able to sink into the cushions....it was just a dream come true.
A dream that came to a crashing end.
It didn't fit through the front door.
Those of you who have seen our house, well...it's small. Very small. Our front door (and only door) isn't an average size door. It's quite a bit smaller. And the roof to our porch is slanted, so we definitely couldn't stand the couch up to get it through the door.
After realizing this, we were VERY disappointed. That really is an understatement. I was devastated. My "dream" couch couldn't even get in my door. All that trouble for nothing.
So now, our lovely new couch stays downstairs, in our garage, all by its lonesome. Well, I guess it has the company of our little car. But still, it goes unused, and we're still pulling a baby off our couch upstairs. Oh well.

If it wasn't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all.

Hotter than Hades

I hate summer, yet I love it all at the same time. I hate how bored I get with nothing to do, but most of all, I hate the heat. Can someone please tell me what the heck I'm supposed do when it's so dang hot outside, besides eat popsicles and sno cones?? The baby is tired of being in the house, and so am I, but geez, I don't want to go out in this heat! Pretty sure I'd melt faster than a stick of butter in Paula Deen's kitchen.
I really can't wait for the day I get to leave Oklahoma's 105, hotter than Hades summer weather...Alaska sounds nice. Maybe we'll live there?
What I feel like...

Where there are babies, there is poop.

Have you ever had something happen in your everyday life (completely unrelated, I might add) that made you think of a forgotten memory? I seem to have these moments a lot.
I'm a very forgetful person, the kind who says "oh I won't ever forget that", and the kind who doesn't keep a journal. Naturally, I forget about the things that I "couldn't forget". So, here is a little blog about forgotten memories that have somehow come to light once again.
Most of the time, I remember things in the most "opportune" times, such as when I'm trying to go to sleep. The other night, I was laying in bed, listening to the steady thrum of our trusty box fan, when I thought of a time when the baby really was a BABY. He was 2 months old (maybe? I really should keep a journal...), and I was laying on the floor, with him sitting on my stomach, his back propped against my legs. We were talking and smiling, you know, average baby stuff, when he decided it was time to take a load off in his diaper. Now, as any mother would know, baby poop defies all laws of physics. Somehow, he managed to push ALL his poo out the leg of his diaper, and onto my clean white shirt, with only a smidgen actually in his diaper. A scratch. That was it. The rest was on my, as stated above, CLEAN WHITE SHIRT. Needless to say, that shirt has bit the dust. Oh, the many joys of motherhood.
My dear husband and I always talk before we go to bed. Except on the days we're both so tired, we're asleep before our heads hit the pillows. One night, the subject of our hospital stay came up. Or more accurately, what we ate at the hospital. When having a baby, you can't eat until after the baby is born. Nobody tells you this, so if you're in labor for a long time, your life pretty much sucks. I remember the last meal I ate before checking into the hospital, and I remember the first meal I ate after the baby was born. Before we went to the hospital, the one thing I had been craving like none other was....a sausage, egg, and cheese biscuit from McDonald's. Yes, I said it. McDonald's. Then I checked into the hospital and was given ice. Ice. Really? Is that supposed to fill a pregnant lady up? I don't think so...By the time the baby came, everything was closed, including the hospital cafeteria, so no food for me. I had watched the hubby eat 2 meals while I was in the hospital, and after 13 hours of labor, I was absolutely starving. The first meal I got, was hospital bacon, eggs, and toast. I'm pretty sure the eggs weren't really eggs, and the bacon must have been microwaved, but I was starving, so they tasted delicious anyway. At my description of how the normally nasty hospital food tasted delicious, the hubby laughed. For some reason, he found it hilarious that I thought the food delicious. I was probably delirious, but I didn't care. I probably would have eaten a brick if they had given it to me. Another joy of motherhood.
Back to the subject of baby poo. The baby was only a week or two old, and the hubby was supposed to change the baby's diaper. I had to go to the bathroom, and it really is true that once you become a mother, you have no time to yourself in the bathroom. As I'm about to wash my hands, I hear the husband screaming my name. As a mom, my first thought was something was wrong with the baby. I sprang from the bathroom, just to find the husband's pants completely covered in baby poo. I about died laughing. Apparently, in my husband's words, he took the diaper off and it was like a poop cannon exploded. There was no stopping it, and it got everywhere. I still have to smile every time I think of the incident. Oh, goodness. Being a parent is the best.
So here are a few tidbits from my crazy life, just in case you wanted to know. I really should start writing these things down...

Burgers. Buns. Beauregards.

Father's Day. The day you honor dads everywhere. Or something like that. We just like to eat.
You know, people think their family dinners are chaotic; That one crazy uncle everyone tries to avoid, the aunt who talks about her cats, maybe a grandma who likes to tell you about the "old days" a little too much. They obviously haven't met our family.
Okay, so you kind of have to know us to understand what I'm talking about, but when you eat with the Beauregards, it's like dinner AND a show. I don't mean the TV kind either.
This past week someone went camping, but apparently wasn't cut out for it. "I didn't cry. I was sweating from my eyes." and maybe a little "I missed mom..."
Pickles, cheese, and tomatoes (mostly tomatoes) stolen by the little ones so there won't be enough for our burgers. Complaints about "Grandma's pasta salad", even though everyone is eating (and enjoying) it. Buns with massive craters in the middle, "WHO ATE THE INSIDE OF MY BUN?!" Or there's the classic, "What did you do to my shirt?? Drool all over it?"
You might even hear "Please bless the Thunder with a win," in the prayer. Just average stuff. Which brings me to the next bit.

    THUNDER UP, PEOPLE!!

We're all big Thunder fans here. Everyday we're Thunderin'! What better to celebrate Father's day with than watching them beat the Heat? And with a new Thunder shirt. And a new Thunder wallet. And maybe even a Thunder themed dessert. Who knows...
Harden's looking a little pale these days. Fear the Beard!

Let's just say we live a crazy life, and we might even like it that way.

My favorite man!

Happy Father's Day!
